For example, emergency management partners must use the following Handle naming convention: County or state abbreviation, followed by a "-", and then the position, station, or last name, e.g.
Handle will also have an entry in it however, erase everything in the Handle field and enter new Handle information based upon your affiliation. In the example above, dmxchat has been entered into the Room field. Enter the primary WFO chat room which you selected during the account request procedure. The Account and Server fields will already be filled out.
To do so, click the Buddies menu on the Buddy List window and select "Add Chat" as depicted below:

If you did not enter your NWSChat password above, then you will be presented with the following dialog box where you will enter the password and click OK:. Although you will have to enter your NWSChat password each time Pidgin starts, by leaving the password blank, you will increase the security of NWSChat. You may elect to leave the Resource field as the default "Home", or instead use "Office" or some other single-word description. In the example above, John Doe, who is an emergency management partner, has entered his NWSChat userid in the username field. This is very important and may often be missed during the configuration of Pidgin. Underneath Login Options, in the top drop down box labeled Protocol, click the down arrow and select "XMPP" to use for NWSChat. Click the "Add" button to enter your new NWSChat account information. Pidgin will start and display the "Add Account" dialog box as depicted below:. If no icon was created on your Windows desktop, then Pidgin can be found in the Windows "Start" menu -> All Programs menu. Double-click the new icon to start Pidgin. 
A new Pidgin icon should be created on your desktop at this point.

Accept all defaults by clicking either "OK" or "Continue" as needed until the install program finishes.If you do not have this level of access, contact your Information Technology department for assistance, otherwise proceed with the installation by double-clicking on the file you just downloaded.
